Real Madrid interested in signing Arsenal teenager Gabriel Martinelli for £50 million

Gabriel Martinelli is having one hell of a debut season.

The young Brazilian now has 10 goals in 21 appearances for Arsenal after scoring during their 2-2 draw with Chelsea on Tuesday night.

Not only did he get onto the scoresheet, but Martinell was key for the Gunners, who were playing with 10 men for well over an hour.

Unsurprisingly, his performances are gaining a lot of attention and it seems even Real Madrid are keeping tabs on the 18-year-old.

According to the Daily Mail, Los Blancos are interesting in signing the teenager and they value him at £50 million.

Should a deal be agreed this month, it would make Martinelli the most expensive 18-year-old in history.

But, it seems Arsenal have absolutely no intention of selling and will offer to triple the player’s wages in an attempt to fend off Madrid’s interest.

Martinelli is currently on £10,000 a week, but talks are under way to reward him with a pay rise that would see him earn £30,000 a week – that’s despite his current deal not expiring until 2024.

The Gunners are desperate to keep hold of their starlet and rightly so.

Manager Mikel Arteta was full of praise for Martinelli after his contribution during Tuesday’s draw with Chelsea, too:

“To play at Stamford Bridge the way he has, with 10 men and against Azpilicueta who in my opinion is one of the best defenders in the league – and he was going against him every single time – you need courage to do that.

“Then his energy. I wanted to take him off a few times because he looked knackered, he was cramping and next minute he’s sprinting 60 yards again.”

After such an impressive performance against Chelsea, it’s hardly surprising that a team like Real Madrid are interested in Martinelli.

But if Arsenal finalise a deal to triple his wages in the coming weeks, it’s almost impossible to see him leaving north London at this stage in his career.
