It’s been a funny season for Everton.

The Toffees entered the 2019/20 season with confidence following a strong end fo the previous campaign under Marco Silva.

And Silva was supported in the transfer market with the arrivals of Andre Gomes, Jean-Philippe Gbamin, Fabian Delph, Moise Kean and Alex Iwobi bolstering the squad.

But the season hasn’t panned out how supporters might have expected it would.

Gomes and Gbamin both suffered serious injuries early in the campaign and Silva was sacked in December with the club in the Premier League relegation zone.

In came Duncan Ferguson for a brief spell in which he publicly embarrassed Moise Kean, although he did oversee a 3-1 win against Chelsea.

And now Carlo Ancelotti is in charge. The Italian has steered Everton away from danger although there have still been some disappointing moments, including a 1-0 defeat to a weakened Liverpool in the FA Cup third round.

And following the 2-2 draw against Newcastle United on Tuesday, in which the Toffees conceded in the 94th minute and 95th minute to throw away a 2-0 lead, Everton fan Matthew Desai felt compelled to write a Twitter thread about the club’s season.

“After a year off, the banter club has returned 💙,” the introduction to the thread reads.
