It takes a special kind of player to get into this Liverpool team. Not necessarily an expensive one - Andy Robertson is proof of that - but one that carries out Jurgen Klopp’s instructions, puts the team first and plays with a relentless spirit.Klopp and Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards have built a squad together that is on the cusp of going down in history. The Reds landed the Champions League last season and look destined to add the Premier League trophy in record-breaking fashion this season. They moved a step closer to that goal with a 2-1 win against Wolves on Thursday.

Roberto Firmino scored a late winner as Liverpool showed just why Klopp once referred to his players as ‘mentality monsters’ by picking up three points at a tough location while not at their best.

Liverpool’s high-achievers were discussed at full-time by Peter Crouch, Paul Ince and Joe Cole, who were pundits on BT Sport.

The trio were asked by host Jake Humphrey whether they would get into the Reds’ current side at their respective peak - and Humphrey received three very different replies.

Crouch said no, Cole couldn’t provide an answer and Ince fully believed that he would get into Liverpool’s current midfield.

Ince: All day long! Yeah I do, without a doubt, for sure.

Cole: I don’t know.

Crouch: I’d be in the Origi role, last 10-15. I wasn’t bad in my day but I wouldn’t get in this team. Not with Mane, Salah, Firmino, no chance. But I’d play a part, and I’d love to play a part.

Ince’s belief that he would get into Liverpool's current team will get fans talking.

He was, however, a fine midfielder in his day, making the PFA Team of the Year in three straight seasons from 1992 to 1995 and winning two Premier League titles with the Red Devils.

Out of any position, midfield is perhaps the one that Liverpool could bolster. Their front three and defence are both world-class but the midfield lacks a genuine superstar.

So perhaps it’s not a preposterous claim for Ince to make.

As for Crouch, you have to appreciate his honesty.

The former striker enjoyed a fine career, playing in the Premier League for most of it, but the presence of Salah, Firmino and Mane would leave him rooted to the bench.
