Brighton and Hove Albion have completed the permanent signing of striker Rianna Jarrett from Wexford Youths, and the loan-signing of Maxime Bennink from Reading, while also allowing goalkeeper Sophie Harris to join Women's Championship side Lewes on loan.

Jarrett joins the club on a six-month deal, having played for both Wexford between 2011-2014, and briefly for UT Martin Skyhawks at the University of Tennessee in 2014 - a spell cute short due to a knee injury she sustained in January 2015. The striker returned to Wexford in 2015.

During her time in the States, she was named the Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Season, after scoring 17 goals. This tally set a new record for the school.

The 25-year-old netted 27 times for Wexford in 2018, helping guide the club to a treble that campaign. She was named the Women's National League Player of the Season in both 2018 and 2019.

Her impressive form has seen her play for the Republic of Ireland National Team, scoring her first goal in October against Ukraine in a EURO 2021 qualifier.

Brighton manager Hope Powell has this to say on the signing:

“It is great news that we have managed to bring Rianna to the club, as she is someone who will bolster our forward options.

“We have kept a close eye on her progress in Ireland, and I know she was very keen to come over to England and prove herself in the Women’s Super League.

“We are all very much looking forward to seeing how she progresses in the months ahead, and cannot wait to start working with her.”

Maxime Bennink joins the club on loan for the remainder of the season, the winger is a Netherlands under-23 international.

Bennink began her career at FC Twente, before moving to PEC Zwolle and eventually Reading.

Powell is delighted to have Maxime as part of her squad saying:

“She is a player that we’ve closely monitored in recent months.

“One of our main priorities during this January window was to strengthen our existing attacking options, and we have been able to do that with the addition of Maxime.

“She is a young and direct player that will add to the competition for places in those areas, and we are very much looking forward to working with her in the months ahead.”

Albion have also confirmed that goalkeeper Sophie Harris has joined WC side, Lewes, on loan until the end of the season.

Harris joined the Seagulls on 2018, and Powell has described her as "the ultimate professional".

Brighton's boss is hoping that the move will allow the shot-stopper to "play regularly at a very competitive level in the Women’s Championship".
