Women's Sport: NBA secures multi-year partnership with luxury fashion house Louis Vuitton

Following the announcement of the NBA's new multi-year partnership with Louis Vuitton, the French fashion house unveiled its custom trophy case, which will house The Larry O'Brien Trophy awarded to the NBA finals winner in June.

The significance of this iconic collaboration is that Louis Vuitton is the first official trophy case provider for the North American sports league.

In the past, the luxury fashion house has produced trophy trunks for other leagues such as the International Tennis Federation and the League of Legends world tournament though this will be the first for the NBA.

The trophy case features an all-over Louis Vuitton logo monogram print with a royal blue interior. Additionally, a capsule collection of clothing and accessories will also be produced and spearheaded by menswear creative director Virgil Abloh.

In creating these pieces, Virgil took inspiration from the three key moments in an athlete's life: the press conference, the match, and travel.

In a statement released by the NBA, the Deputy Commissioner, and Chief Operating Officer Mark Tatum said: "The NBA finals is defined by iconic players and memorable performances, culminating with the presentation of The Larry O'Brien Trophy.

"The tradition, heritage, and identity of Louis Vuitton create a natural synergy with the NBA and this partnership provides a unique and befitting way to showcase our championship trophy to our fans around the world," he added.

With the announcement of this new fashionable investment in the major men's professional league, will we see it cross-over in the WNBA?
