Manchester United have made a shock enquiry for Leicester flop Islam Slimani. 

The Red Devils want to take the Algerian on loan but have been told it will cost them a £4 million fee. 

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking for a short-term replacement for Marcus Rashford, who has been ruled out for up to six weeks with a back injury. 

That's left United with just two fit forwards - Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood. 

With just seven days of the transfer window left, the club have been left desperately chasing a striker and according to the Daily Mail, have landed on Slimani. 

The 31-year-old has scored just eight goals in 35 Premier League appearances for Leicester and is currently on loan in Ligue 1 with Monaco. 

In France, he's doing slightly better, netting seven goals in 14 appearances. 

Man United have also been linked with another shock move this week - for former striker Carlos Tevez. 

The 35-year-old is currently playing for Boca Juniors but is not in the manager's plans, so has been made a target. 

Tevez is seen as a cheap, temporary fix, with previous Premier League experience. 

Despite being linked to a number of players, Solskjaer has remained coy on any January transfers. 

"The squad is stretched but we're getting players back after the winter break as well," he said after the 2-0 defeat to Burnley.

"We will be better off for the break. We're still working on one or two things so let's see if the club get it over the line." 

It's been quite a strange week to be a United fan. First, the club is embarrassed by Burnley at Old Trafford and the response is to go after two rather uninspiring transfer targets. 

But with Rashford sidelined, signing a striker - no matter who it is - is better than nothing, right?
