Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is feeling the pressure at Manchester United, there's no two ways about it.

Reports are suggesting that the Old Trafford hierarchy remain supportive, but their resolve was truly tested after Burnley secured their first win at United in more than half a century.

As a result, United have lost three of their last four Premier League games and will also crash out of the Carabao Cup in mid-week, barring a miraculous semi-final comeback at the Etihad Stadium.

So, it was inevitable that Solskjaer would be facing some tough questions ahead of United's only realistic shot at silver this season: the FA Cup, in which they've drawn Tranmere Rovers.

And one of Solskjaer's arguments when the questions came raining in was that he needs more time to implement his long-term project at the 'Theatre of Dreams.'

Solskjaer compares to Klopp

According to Sky Sports, when asked if he'll spend big in the transfer market, the Norwegian replied: "For me, we do have a way of doing things.

"Of course you can see other teams have done well. Jurgen [Klopp] spent four years building his team and they're doing well now. I've said it so many times, it's not going to be a quick fix.

"It's not going to be eight or 10 players in, in one transfer window. We've had one proper transfer window in the summer, because the January ones are difficult. But we are trying to do something now."

Tweet comparing Klopp and Solskjaer

If the Klopp comment in particular has riled you then, don't worry, you're not alone and the Independent's Senior Football Correspondent Melissa Reddy simply couldn't let it slide.

That's because she compiled a brilliant 11-tweet thread that sums up exactly why Klopp was given time at Liverpool and why it doesn't necessarily make sense to afford Solskjaer that treatment.

It delves into Klopp's reputation coming from Mainz and Borussia Dortmund, Liverpool's structure behind the scenes and how the United hierarchy have built their own downfall.

Melissa is absolutely spot on, there are vast differences between Klopp and Solskjaer's scenarios.

We're talking about a boss who won two Bundesliga titles and coached in a Champions League final, while another has spent most of his career in Norway and was relegated with Cardiff City.

It's like investing in a company you know will come good eventually because of previous successes or on the contrary, chucking your money at a project running on the mere fumes of nostalgia.

If Solskjaer wants to be treated similarly to a manager with a CV ten times better than his own, then he needs to show the United hierarchy far more positive indicators than he currently is.

The stats literally suggest that United were better off with David Moyes, Louis van Gaal or most certainly Jose Mourinho.

This idea of giving Solskjaer time because of a long-term project is simply a smokescreen for the United hierarchy who simply can't sniff the fire that's enveloping the house around them.
