Barcelona haven’t been the same since that night at Anfield.

The Blaugrana’s 4-0 defeat at the hands of Liverpool in the Champions League semi-final has been followed by a rocky period for the Catalan club.

They went on to win the La Liga title but suffered a disappointing defeat to Valencia in the Copa del Rey final.

And they really haven’t been good since.

The Blaugrana may sit first in the Spanish top flight but they haven’t played well, collecting 43 points from a possible 63.

And they could relinquish their grip on top spot when Real Madrid, also on 43 points, take on Real Valladolid on Sunday evening.

Manager Ernesto Valverde was sacked following the Spanish Super Cup semi-final defeat to Atletico Madrid and they haven’t looked great under his replacement, Quique Setien.

Setien suffered his first defeat as Barcelona boss against Valencia on Saturday, Lionel Messi and co. falling to a 2-0 defeat.

And in the aftermath of the loss, Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to claim they’ve ‘finished’ Barcelona.

Liverpool supporters also flooded Barcelona’s match result tweet with gifs of Divock Origi’s goal. More than eight months on and they’re still not letting the Spanish giants forget about ‘a corner taken quickly’.

Throw in Lionel Messi’s comments weeks after the 4-0 defeat and there may be some truth in the idea that Liverpool’s win had a genuine impact on Barcelona that is still hurting them.

“We have to apologise for the second half of the match at Liverpool," Messi said, per BBC Sport

"Not because of the result, but because of how it looked and that we didn't compete. It was one of the worst experiences in my career.”

It's been a good run. But a corner taken quickly has been too much to recover from.
