Manchester United got back to winning ways against Tranmere in the FA Cup. They did it rather emphatically too. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side put six goals past their League Two opposition with five of those coming in the first half. Harry Maguire got the ball rolling with a screamer from outside the box, while Diogo Dalot and Jesse Lingard made it 3-0 within 16 minutes. Phil Jones and Anthony Martial added strikes before the break and Mason Greenwood rounded off the scoring with a penalty in the 56th minute.

The youngster slotted home comfortably, but fans were quick to notice something interesting about his spot-kick.

Greenwood has drawn comparisons with legendary striker Robin van Persie for the way he strikes the ball with his left foot but converted the penalty with his right foot.

In essence, the 18-year-old scored with his 'weak' foot. Check it out:

Stepping up to take a spot-kick with your weaker foot shows serious confidence, but there is actually a reason Greenwood uses his right for set-pieces.

When he was playing for United's under-13s, he missed a penalty with his left foot and has been using the other one ever since.

"I prefer my left foot, just about, to my right foot [as the stronger one]" he told Man United's website back in October 2019.

"Actually, it happened when I was in the Under-13s. I missed with my left foot against City when I was struggling in a game and ever since I've just gone with the right foot."

Very interesting indeed. We know footballers are a superstitious bunch, so it's not surprising Greenwood has his reasons for using his 'weaker' foot for set pieces.

He'll just hope to keep scoring from 12 yards. Otherwise, the teenager won't know which foot to use the next time!
