Kobe Bryant’s legacy goes beyond basketball.

The LA Lakers legend became a five-time NBA champion across a spectacular 20-year career to become one of the greatest players of all time.

Yet the outpouring of grief around the world following his tragic passing is telling of the impact he had on millions of people in and outside the game.

Bryant, as well as his 13-year-old daughter Gianna – herself a promising young ball player – and seven others died when their helicopter crashed near Calabasas, California on Sunday.

There were no survivors.

Tributes have been pouring in for Bryant, 41, and among them, a video has been put together of every one one of his game-winners.

In the last seconds of a game, you wouldn’t want anybody else on the court.

It’s these kinds of highlights videos from his dazzling career that inspired many around the globe to first watch the NBA.

Although games still went ahead on Sunday night, many struggled to contain their emotions and teams took the opportunity to pay their own tributes.

The Knicks honoured the 2008 NBA MVP by turning the lights at Madison Square Garden purple and gold, while the Toronto Raptors and San Antonio Spurs both took a 24-second violation at the start of their game in reference to his shirt number.

Crowds also began to gather in LA as flowers and Lakers jerseys were laid at a shrine.

Since his retirement in 2016, Bryant was also beginning to inspire the next generation and had reportedly been on his way to the Mamba Sports Academy in Thousand Oaks with his daughter when the accident happened.

Our thoughts are with the families of all those involved.
