Edge made his shocking return to WWE at the Royal Rumble on Sunday night. The Rated-R Superstar was the rumble's 21st entrant and when his music hit, those inside Minute Maid Park and everyone watching at home lost their minds. After all, it's been nine years since we've seen the grand slam champion in the ring.WWE did well to play down rumours of his potential return, so was a real surprise to most in attendance. After Edge made his way down the ramp, he dived into the ring and speared Dolph Ziggler, Karl Anderson and Drew McIntyre. Iconic.

Unfortunately, WWE cameras actually failed to catch the spear to Ziggler - Edge's first in nine years.

Instead, they were still showing members of the crowd losing their minds.

But fear not, because plenty of people sitting ringside had their phones out to film the special moment and some of the fan footage is absolutely brilliant. Check it out:

According to reports from WrestleVotes, the 11-time world champion has signed a three-year contract with WWE worth 'significant money'.

Edge was taking all kinds of bumps on Sunday night and he even came face-to-face with Seth Rollins, the man that threatened to paralyze him on Raw back in 2014.

There is no word yet about how the company plan to use Edge going forward, but as we're in WrestleMania season, we're hoping to see a lot of him.

Just imagine all those dream matches we could see - Randy Orton, AJ Styles or even the Monday Night Messiah himself, Rollins.

Although he probably won't be on RAW or SmackDown every week, with a new three-year deal that pays significant money, expect to see Edge sharing the ring with some of WWE's top talent.
