Jesse Lingard has started 2020 in terrific form.
Well, by his standards anyway.
The Manchester United midfielder scored just two goals in all competitions in 2019. In the FA Cup in January against Arsenal and in the Europa League against Astana in November.
He’s already opened his 2020 account with a fine strike in United’s 6-0 victory over Tranmere at the weekend.
But that hasn’t stopped him from being subject to a cruel - and rather hilarious - YouTube video.
- Liverpool fan and UFC star Darren Till blasts Jesse Lingard in scathing tweet
- Manchester United's Jesse Lingard criticised with damning Bernardo Silva statistic
- Jesse Lingard teams up with Mino Raiola to raise questions over Man Utd future
The video, posted by YouTube user Anonsi, is a tribute to ‘Jesse Lingard - Midfield Maestro.’
It starts off with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer signing Lingard’s praises in a press conference.
And then shows some fake quotes from some football greats.
“Yes, Messi is fantastic and maybe the best. But could he do it on a cold rainy night in Stoke? Jesse Lingard could.” - Diego Maradona.
“One day, I want my son to grow up and play like Jesse Lingard.” - Cristiano Ronaldo.
Then comes the fun.
The video shows clips of Lingard’s worst moments. Misses, failed skills, misplaced passes to the backing of some legendary commentary from the likes of Martin Tyler.
We shouldn’t laugh but…
Then comes the big finale, Lingard winning the Ballon d’Or.
Brilliant.
Take a look:
To be fair to Lingard, after his goal against Tranmere, he admitted that he hasn't been in the greatest form recently.
“I’ve not been in the best form,” Lingard told BT Sport. “It’s always good to score a goal and help the team."
Maybe this goal can help see him kickstart his United career. While he may not be competing for Ballon d'Ors, the 27-year-old has a chance to rekindle for career at Old Trafford.
