The Premier League has been the home of lavish spending for many years now.

Those at the top throw money around like it's going out of fashion, while even the likes of Leicester, Everton and West Ham have signed players for £40m+ in recent years.

Money at the highest level is pretty darn crazy, but just how bonkers would the fees now be for some of the Premier League's biggest ever signings?

Thanks to Totally Money, we here at GIVEMESPORT can provide the data for just that.

Below you will find the top 25 most expensive Premier League transfers ever based on today's prices.

The amount of nine-figure fees is frankly mind-blowing.

25. Dimitar Berbatov (Spurs to Man Utd, 2008/09)

Original fee - £34,200,000

Today's money - £88,912,441

The silkiest of players, but you just feel like he never fulfilled his full potential at Old Trafford after starring in north London. Although, his 20 league goals in 2010/11 helped secure yet another title for Sir Alex Ferguson.

24. Edin Dzeko (Wolfsburg to Man City, 2010/11)

Original fee - £33,300,000

Today's money - £91,701,241

An underrated asset at City, one who was the perfect foil for Sergio Aguero. He scored 72 goals in his 189 games for the club, a pretty fair return for City's £33.3m investment.

23. Damien Duff (Blackburn to Chelsea, 2003/04)

Original fee - £22,050,000

Today's money - £92,626,605

It's easy to forget just how good Duff was at Chelsea. The Irishman was a key man in Jose Mourinho's all-conquering side and they just don't make wingers quite like him anymore. A bargain at just over £22m.

22. Raheem Sterling (Liverpool to Man City, 2015/16)

Original fee - £57,330,000

Today's money - £93,257,095

One of the most controversial transfers in Premier League history, but one that has bore fruit for Sterling and City, Trophies and goals have been easy to come by for the Englishman and that £57.3m fee looks like pennies these days.

21. Sergio Aguero (Atletico Madrid to Man City, 2011/12)

Original fee - £36,000,000

Today's money - £95,687,405

The best £36m ever spent by Man City. Four Premier League titles, 252 goals and one club legend. Even if City had coughed up £95.7m for Aguero, he still would have been a bargain.

20. Chris Sutton (Norwich to Blackburn, 1994/95)

Original fee - £6,750,000

Today's money - £95,974,853

Sutton and £96m, two things that you just don't expect to see associated with each other, but £6.75m was a lot of money back then. Sutton scored 50 goals in 143 appearances for Blackburn, before joining Chelsea.

19. Dennis Bergkamp (Inter to Arsenal, 1995/96)

Original fee - £10,130,000

Today's money - £96,230,560

A Premier League legend. Arsenal took a risk when they spent £10m on an out-of-form Bergkamp, but the Dutchman quickly became a fan favourite. A playmaking extraordinare and a competent goal scorer to go with it, a player of Bergkamp's ilk would certainly merit a £96m fee today.

18. Ricardo Carvalho (FC Porto to Chelsea, 2004/05)

Original fee - £27,000,000

Today's money - £96,871,067

World-class centre-backs are hard to come by, hence why Liverpool spent £75m on Virgil van Dijk. Carvalho thrived under Mourinho and alongside John Terry, he helped make Chelsea's defence impregnable.

17. Hernan Crespo (Inter to Chelsea, 2003/04)

Original fee - £23,400,000

Today's money - £98,297,622

Argentina love producing elite strikers and Crespo was one of the best. With 25 goals in 73 games for the Blues, he was certainly a decent signing, but his best days came in Italy with Parma, Inter, Lazio and AC Milan.

16. Robinho (Real Madrid to Man City, 2008/09)

Original fee - £38,700,000

Today's money - £100,611,446

City's first big-money signing, but one that really didn't pay off. Aside from an initial burst of quality following his arrival, Robinho will forever be remembered as a massive flop. He joined AC Milan on a permanent basis in 2010 and he's now with Istanbul Basaksehir.

15. Andy Carroll (Newcastle to Liverpool, 2010/11)

Original fee - £36,900,000

Today's money - £101,614,888

Imagine the scenes if someone spent £101m on a striker with the quality of Carroll this summer, absolute madness. He scored just 11 goals in his 58 games for Liverpool, before moving to West Ham. He's now back with Newcastle, where goals are still hard to come by.

14. Shaun Wright-Phillips (Man City to Chelsea, 2005/06)

Original fee - £28,350,000

Today's money - £109,930,242

Chelsea certainly paid over the odds for Wright-Phillips, especially given the fact he delivered just 28 goals contributions in 125 games (10 goals, 18 assists). He re-joined City in 2008, before moving to QPR in 2011.

13. Stan Collymore (Nottingham Forest to Liverpool, 1995/96)

Original fee - £11,700,000

Today's money - £111,144,872

One of the most underrated strikers of the Premier League era. Collymore notched 35 goals in his 81 appearances for Liverpool, a more than decent return. After two seasons with the Reds, the Englishman moved to Aston Villa.

12. Kevin De Bruyne (Wolfsburg to Man City, 2015/16)

Original fee - £68,400,000

Today's money - £111,264,352

De Bruyne is probably worth way more than £111m right now. In fact, he definitely is. The guy makes mind-boggling assists look effortless and there's probably not a better playmaker in world football at the time of writing.

11. Roy Keane (Nottingham Forest to Man Utd, 1993/94)

Original fee - £7,650,000

Today's money - £118,354,208

Another player where you look at his price in today's money and think, probably worth it. Arguably the greatest defensive midfielder in Premier League history, Keane was the anchor and driving force behind Ferguson's greatest ever United sides.

10. Wayne Rooney (Everton to Man Utd, 2004/05)

Original fee - £33,300,000

Today's money - £119,474,316

Spending £33m on a teenager was a bold, bold move back in 2004, but it's safe to say it paid dividends. United's record goal scorer left for Everton in 2017 and after a spell with DC United, he's back in English football with Derby County.

9. Angel Di Maria (Real Madrid to Man Utd, 2014/15)

Original fee - £67,500,000

Today's money - £121,413,257

A huge fee for one average season. Di Maria and United just didn't click as a partnership, but at least the Red Devils recouped around £44m when they offloaded the Argentine to PSG in 2015.

8. Andy Cole (Newcastle to Man Utd, 1994/95)

Original fee - £8,640,000

Today's money - £122,847,811

Another masterstroke by Ferguson. After scoring 47 goals in 61 games for Newcastle, United saw fit to splurge on the talented youngster (£8.6m was considered splurging back then). Cole repaid the faith instantly and ended up scoring 121 goals in six trophy-laden years at United.

7. Didier Drogba (Marseille to Chelsea, 2004/05)

Original fee - £34,650,000

Today's money - £124,317,870

Arguably Mourinho's greatest signing as Chelsea manager. Need a goal in a big game? Drogba was your man. Need a goal in a cup final? Drogba was your man. That fee of £34.6m, even in the summer of 2004, was an absolute steal for the Ivorian, who recently called time on his playing career.

6. Paul Pogba (Juventus to Man Utd, 2016/17)

Original fee - £94,500,000

Today's money - £129,762,764

The most divisive signing in Premier League history? Pogba's return to United has coincided with an era of uncertainty at Old Trafford and due to the fact that the Frenchman is a huge social media presence off the field, the blame seems to always lie with him when the Red Devils fail on it. Weird.

5. Michael Essien (Lyon to Chelsea, 2005/06)

Original fee - £34,200,000

Today's money - £132,614,261

Imagine Essien and N'Golo Kante in the same Chelsea team. The Blues would have been truly unstoppable. The Ghanian was adored by Blues fans and is a true club legend. He's still actually an active player out in Azerbaijan with Sabail FK.

4. Andriy Shevchenko (AC Milan to Chelsea, 2006/07)

Original fee - £39,490,000

Today's money - £136,561,389

At AC Milan, the Ukrainian scored goals for fun. With Chelsea, Shevchenko looked like he'd never kicked a ball in his life before. His enormous transfer fee appeared to be a burden as he mustered just 22 goals in 77 games. He re-joined Dynamo Kiev in 2009.

3. Alan Shearer (Blackburn to Newcastle, 1996/97)

Original fee - £18,900,000

Today's money - £138,026,584

Back when Newcastle were big spenders in the transfer market, not the frivolous club they have become under Mike Ashley. £18.9m back in 1996 bought you one of the world's best strikers and Shearer backed up the investment by scoring 182 goals in 374 games for the Magpies.

2. Fernando Torres (Liverpool to Chelsea, 2010/11)

Original fee - £52,650,000

Today's money - £144,987,097

We all thought £50m at the time was ludicrous, but imagine watching a club spend £145m on a declining striker in the modern day! Chelsea fans never saw the real Torres and aside from THAT goal away at Barcelona in the 2012 Champions League, his time at the club is not fondly remembered by Blues supporters.

1. Rio Ferdinand (Leeds to Man Utd, 2002/03)

Original fee - £41,400,000

Today's money - £158,659,741

The winner, by some distance. Paying £41m for a player in 2002 was almost unheard of, but United's gamble yielded seriously impressive results. Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic might just be the greatest centre-back pairing in Premier League history, winning a plethora of trophies together.

Ferdinand wins by a £14m margin, impressive stuff.

It's interesting to note that the majority of transfers on the list have not occurred in the last few years, when spending appears to have been rife.

The original fees paid for the likes of Shearer, Cole, Rooney, Essien and more may look like bargains to the naked eye in the present day, but their transfers were gargantuan.

Will we see a Premier League club eclipse Ferdinand's £158m adjusted fee in the near future? You certainly wouldn't rule it out.
