Alexis Sanchez's time at Manchester United was nothing short of disastrous.

There was a lot of optimism at Old Trafford when he made the move from Arsenal in January 2018.

But the Chilean never settled at United.

He lasted just one-and-a-half seasons at the club, where he scored just five goals in 45 games.

On mammoth wages and out-of-favour under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, United were unable to find a buyer and he was shipped out on loan to Inter Milan.

Both Sanchez and Man United have struggled since his departure.

The 31-year-old suffered a long-term injury earlier on in the season and has scored just once in six appearances under Antonio Conte.

United have also been underwhelming this season and they are currently 5th in the Premier League having racked up just 34 points in 24 games.

With United struggling, there have been reports that the club are willing to give Sanchez a second chance when he returns in the summer.

And Solskjaer addressed those reports in his press conference on Tuesday, saying the 31-year-old will play for the club again and prove everyone wrong.

"We’ve got players here who are working hard to get back as well and if there is something out there then the club are pursuing that and looking at it," he said, per the Metro.

"Of course it’s a difficult window and it always has been. I can’t remember how many good’ns we’ve brought in in January… Henrik [Larsson] was good, Nemanja [Vidic] and Patrice [Evra] were two good ones. Henrik was a loan…

"It’s hard, it’s very hard. The clubs don’t want to lose their best players so Alexis Sanchez will come back in the summer and prove you all wrong."

Can't imagine that will go down very well with United fans.

So much was expected of Sanchez but he flopped badly.

Supporters of the club want them to sign young, exciting players who will improve the club and take them forward - not ageing players who have failed in the past.

Sanchez had his chance and failed spectacularly. He's clearly not the player he used to be, so bringing him back and giving his a second chance seems an odd decision by Solskjaer.
