Daggers out of the drop zone: Match Review

Dagenham & Redbridge recorded back-to-back wins for the first time this season as they eased their relegation concerns by beating Colchester 1-0.

Other results at the bottom may have gone against them, but the home side played with an air of authority and controlled proceedings against their Essex neighbours, who desperately lacked inspiration.

Following victory at Bristol Rovers at the weekend, Dagenham's confidence levels were given an early boost when Romain Vincelot's tireless hassling created an opportunity for Bas Savage, who poked home from close range in the 11th minute.

The visitors, who are still within reach of the play-off places, lacked urgency until the final 10 minutes of the contest when they asked questions of the home defence from a series set-pieces.

Ian Henderson's injury-time free kick had the aura of a late equaliser, but Jon Nurse stood up to it bravely in the wall as Daggers were resolute in their commitment.

A late breakaway nearly added gloss to the victory for the home side, but their superior effort was enough to secure a vital three points.
