The race for the 2019/20 European Golden Shoe has been hotting up.

Ciro Immobile has led the way for much of the season with 23 goals.

The Lazio striker could become the first Serie A player, and indeed the first Italian, to win the award since Francesco Totti in 2007.

What makes his tally particularly remarkable is his goals-per-minutes ratio. In short, when he plays, he usually scores.

However, as we take a look at the top five European leagues, Immobile finds himself beaten by one man - the only Premier League player to feature in the top 10 players with the most goals per minute.

To narrow it down to the very best, we're only looking at players with at least 10 league goals this season.

10. Ángel Rodríguez (Getafe) - 9 goals in 902 minutes

Put some respect on this man's name. Getafe have been the great success story of this season's La Liga campaign and it's in large part thanks to Angel Rodriguez, who has scored a goal every 100 minutes.

9. Lionel Messi (Barcelona) - 14 goals in 1350 minutes

Quique Setièn has had a difficult start at Barcelona; he'll have to pray that Leo Messi keeps up his rate of a goal every 96 minutes.

8. Cristiano Ronaldo (Juventus) - 17 goals in 1585 minutes

Maurizio Sarri has been torn between resting Ronaldo and using him sparingly in the cups, but also helping the Portuguese reach new heights. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner has scored once every 93 minutes, including his recent consolation in the defeat to Napoli.

7. Josip Ilicic (Atalanta) - 13 goals in 1170 minutes

The Slovenian has rocketed up to a goal every 90 minutes, but that doesn't strictly mean a goal per game. Ilicic scored a hat-trick in Atalanta's 7-0 mauling of Torino.

6. Neymar (PSG) - 13 goals in 1141 minutes

A goal every 88 minutes. This pretty well sums up Neymar's time at PSG, right? When he's on the pitch, he's been phenomenal. The problem is he spends too much time injured, frozen out or generally going AWOL.

5. Kylian Mbappe (PSG) - 13 goals in 1086 minutes

Now here's a man who has caused the Parisians no problems whatsoever, except by attracting inevitable interest from Real Madrid. The young World Cup winner has been scoring at a rate of every 84 minutes.

4. Timo Werner (RB Leipzig) - 20 goals in 1605 minutes

There's a good reason Werner is reportedly being courted by clubs like Liverpool and Madrid and that's his record of a goal every 80 minutes. He would be an enormous loss for Leipzig if he did move on.

3. Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich) - 21 goals in 1682 minutes

Big Lewie just pips Werner because he's scored more goals, but he also has a strike rate of 80 minutes. The Polish international is already well on his way to 40 goals in all competitions this season and has now scored over 20 league goals for five successive seasons.

2. Ciro Immobile (Lazio) - 23 goals in 1652 minutes

Immobile is currently banging in the goals every 72 minutes, aided, of course, by his recent hat-trick against Sampdoria.

1. Sergio Aguero - 16 goals in 1111 minutes

The very best in the business right now, at least in terms of goals per minute - 69, in Aguero's case. That's because the Argentine has only started 13 Premier League games as Pep Guardiola has alternated him with Gabriel Jesus.

Aguero recently became the highest-scoring overseas player in Premier League history, overtaking Thierry Henry.

Granted, most of that work was put in over the course of his previous seasons, yet when he's been given his chance this season, he's taken it.
