It's hard not to feel Olivier Giroud has never quite got the respect he's deserved in the Premier League. Forever a super-sub at Arsenal, the 33-year-old's luck didn't change when he moved to Chelsea and he now finds himself more of a bit-part player than ever. But is he about to become a nemesis for both clubs? The Frenchman is out of contract this summer and is available in a cut-price deal before the end of the January transfer window. That has reportedly attracted the interest of Tottenham Hotspur as they continue their search for a striker.

Jose Mourinho will be without Harry Kane until April at the earliest after the England international limped out of the New Year's Day defeat to Southampton with a torn hamstring.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Spurs have therefore approached Chelsea about Giroud - though the Blues are reluctant to let him join their rivals.

It initially seemed as if AC Milan's Krzysztof Piatek was the Lilywhites' first choice.

The two clubs failed to agree on his valuation, even for a loan move, which has left Daniel Levy exploring other options.

The revolving door at Hotspur Way is suddenly in full swing at the end of a mostly quite January.

At the same time as Christian Eriksen's move to Inter Milan was confirmed, Spurs announced that they had taken up the option to make Giovani Lo Celso's move permanent following his impressive recent performances.

The Argentine follows Gedson Fernandes in arriving in north London, the Portuguese midfielder signing on loan from Benfica.

Winger Steven Bergwijn is expected to join from PSV in the next 48 hours.

Giroud would ostensibly only be a short-term fix up front, though Spurs will offer a one-and-a-half year deal.

Yet in many ways, if it did come to fruition, it would be a huge statement, Mourinho showing he is unafraid to tread on Frank Lampard's turf and at the same time bring in an experienced World Cup winner.

Down the road at the Emirates, his popularity has survived one cross-London switch. It's hard to imagine his reputation among Arsenal fans surviving this particular one.
