Jesse Lingard caught the ire of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer during Manchester United’s EFL Cup semi-final second leg against Manchester United on Wednesday. The England international was guilty of losing the ball on numerous occasions and was replaced in the 65th minute after an awful display. The final straw came when Lingard’s poor touch led to a Man City chance. The cameras cut to Solskjaer on the touchline and he appeared to tell the midfielder: “One more time and you’re f***ing off”.

Rarely do we see the Norwegian coach incensed but he let rip at Lingard.

And he was taken off minutes afterwards, replaced by Andreas Pereira.

Lingard gifted Man City’s Raheem Sterling a glorious chance to score when he produced a disastrous touch to give the ball away.

It led to a City move that Sterling really should have scored from, but he blasted the ball over after delaying his shot.

Man United led 1-0 at the time thanks to Nemanja Matic's goal but they were unable to find the second that they needed to stand a chance of reaching the EFL final.

They won the return fixture but lost 3-2 on aggregate, meaning the final will be contested by Man City and Aston Villa.

Still, there were positives for Solskjaer to take from the game.

It's the second time this season that they've defeated their rivals at the Etihad Stadium following December's triumph in the Premier League.

And with Bruno Fernandes' signing close to being completed, things may be looking up for the Red Devils.

The chance for silverware remains.

Man United will take on Club Brugge in the Europa League round-of-32 next month and they're through to the fifth round of the FA Cup.

A trophy would heavily boost Solskjaer's chances of leading Man United into next season following an inconsistence league campaign in which his tactical nous has been questioned more than once.
