Ole Gunnar Solskjaer showed more of what Manchester United fans wanted to see during the club’s 1-0 win over Manchester City on Wednesday. The Norwegian coach ripped into midfielder Jesse Lingard during the second half and later took a sly dig at Anthony Martial, who didn’t do enough to get himself into goalscoring positions at the Etihad.“I want a striker who wants to break his nose to score a goal,” Solskjaer said when quizzed about his attacking options at full-time.It was the clip of him berating Lingard that really impressed the fans, though.Solskjaer has often been criticised for being too nice and not showing enough grit during his time as Man United’s manager.

But that certainly wasn’t the case when he singled Lingard out for a rollicking in the 59th minute.

“One more time and you’re f***ing off,” the Man United boss appeared to shout at the England international.

Lingard had just given possession away - not for the first time in the match - and his wastefulness gifted Man City a glorious opportunity to score.

The ball was played through to Raheem Sterling but the Man City forward fluffed his lines.

It was Lingard’s touch that led to the chance. This is why supporters are ecstatic at the thought of new signing Bruno Fernandes replacing Lingard in the team.

Things just aren’t going right for the 27-year-old. He netted in the 6-0 win over Tranmere but that was just a brief respite in what has been a difficult period for him.

Per Sofascore, he lost possession eight times against City.

Lingard’s struggles off the pitch were revealed in an interview with the Daily Mail in December and they have impacted his form on the pitch.

But at the highest level, Lingard is judged on his performances. He’s not delivering and it’s hard to imagine he’ll get getting many more starts for a while.
