The arrival of Bruno Fernandes at Manchester United will add some much-needed steel to the Red Devils. The Portuguese midfielder is known for having a temper, showing his fiery side back in September when he smashed two dressing room doors after being sent off for Sporting Lisbon. And after Sporting’s 2-1 defeat to Braga in the semi-final of the Taca da Liga earlier this month, Fernandes stormed down the town, shoved a camera out of his face and argued with a policeman. It’s just the type of character Man United are looking for. Can you picture Jesse Lingard doing any of that? The 25-year-old’s ability to link the midfield and attack should benefit United’s forward line, with Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and co. bound to profit from Fernandes’ playmaking abilities.

However, United’s players won’t want to get on his bad side.

Last September, Fernandes was revealed to have slammed his Sporting teammates in audio recordings leaked by Portuguese outlet CMTV.

It came after Sporting were beaten at home by Famalicao, with Fernandes venting his fury with his teammates and the media.

“Bro, I don’t say anything! I honestly, if you want me to tell you, I’d rather not comment on anything,” Fernandes said, his quotes transcribed by Record.

“I think very badly of some of the attitude of some players. Actually not a certain attitude, it’s an attitude that does not exist.

“There are players who have no attitude here, bro. They don’t want to be here, they don’t want to play.

“They don’t want to be here then f*** off, let them say they don’t want to play.

“They spend a year here getting money, and then they f*** off, bro. S*** attitude bro, for f**** sake.”

Just imagine Fernandes’ reaction when he watches Lingard and Phil Jones in action.

Another recording was released in which the Portugal international hit out at the media and said fans were right to protest against the team.

“They are focused on talking badly about players and giving news that only causes confusion and s***,” Fernandes added.

“Just yesterday ‘invasion of supporters’. What invasion? They went there to complain, it’s their right! They went there to sing and send some words.

“What do we want? We don’t beat anyone and we want what? Applause in all games? That’s all I needed, bro! Come and cheer us always!

“We lost at home against Famalicao and we want to be applauded… Applauded? Brother, go play with your c**k.”

Fernandes’ passion is clear and his character, just as much as his talent, is what makes him such a crucial signing for Man United.

He’s clearly not afraid to come for anyone he believes is slacking.
