Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to bring in a striker before the transfer window closes on Friday. The Norwegian boss admitted after Wednesday night’s 1-0 victory over Manchester City that he wanted a striker who is prepared to “break his nose” in order to score a goal.United have been linked to various strikers in recent days, including the likes of Odion Ighalo, Islam Slimani, Krzysztof Piatek and Edinson Cavani. With top scorer Marcus Rashford sidelined until March, the inconsistent Anthony Martial and 18-year-old Mason Greenwood are Solskjaer’s only attacking options for the time being.Ighalo and Slimani remain options, but Piatek and Cavani are expected to sign for Hertha Berlin and Atletico Madrid, respectively.

United fans aren’t enthralled by the idea of signing either Ighalo or Slimani, but they might be a little more intrigued about the prospect of signing Salomon Rondon.

According to The Times, United have turned their attention to the former Newcastle United and West Brom striker, who has plied his trade with Chinese side Dalian Yifang since the summer.

Rondon netted five goals in 11 league appearances for his current employers last season, but the upcoming campaign has been delayed because of the escalation of the coronavirus epidemic.

A new start date for the 2020 Chinese Super League season has not yet been announced and United are exploring the possibility of signing the Venezuela international on a loan deal.

Rondon, a 6ft 1in targetman who turned 30 in September, scored goals fairly regularly during his spell in the Premier League.

He bagged 24 league goals in 108 games for West Brom, before scoring 11 in 32 for Newcastle during the 2018-19 season.

The South American also previously played for the likes of Malaga, Rubin Kazan and Zenit.

If United are successful in their pursuit, Rondon will become United’s third signing this week following the imminent arrivals of Bruno Fernandes and 20-year-old goalkeeper Nathan Bishop.
