Manchester United have officially confirmed the signing of Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon.
The midfielder was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford last summer but the club failed to strike a deal.

But now Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has finally got his man for a fee that could reach £68 million.

The 25-year-old played in Italy for Udinese and Sampdoria before making a £7 million move to Sporting in 2017.

During his time in Portugal, the midfielder has been mightily impressive.

He’s bagged 64 goals in 134 appearances and has become club captain for Sporting. He’s also represented his country on 19 occasions.

In a statement on the club's website, Fernandes admitted that he has been a Man United fan since watching Cristiano Ronaldo play for the club.

“My love of Manchester United really started when I used to watch Cristiano Ronaldo play and ever since then I have been a big fan of this great club," Fernandes told the United website.

"For me to now play for Manchester United feels incredible, I have worked hard to get to this moment and I can promise the fans that I will give everything for the badge to help bring us more success and trophies.

"I want to thank Sporting for everything they have done for me. It is surreal to hear the nice words that have been said about me from players that used to play for this team.

"A massive thank you to Ole and everyone at Manchester United for the trust they have shown in me and I can’t wait to start to repay that on the pitch.”

Sporting released a statement that included the figures of the deal.

United paid €55m up front with up to €25m in add-ons.

So, what will Fernandes bring to this United side?

Well, with uncertainty surrounding Paul Pogba’s future and Scott McTominay struggling with injury, Fernandes will provide some much-needed quality in midfield.

He can play in a midfield two but is also effective as a No. 10. He’s created 55 chances in his 15 appearances this season - far more than any current United player.
