So it’s done. Bruno Fernandes is a Manchester United player.

The Red Devils announced the transfer of Fernandes on Thursday in a deal that could reach £67.7 million.

"For me to now play for Manchester United feels incredible," the Portuguese midfielder said in a statement on the club’s website.

The 25-year-old follows Cristiano Ronaldo, Luis Nani and Marcos Rojo in joining United from Sporting, and he admitted that Ronaldo - who won the Ballon d’Or during his time at Old Trafford - was the one who turned him to the Premier League giants.

“My love of Manchester United really started when I used to watch Cristiano Ronaldo play and ever since then I have been a big fan of this great club," Fernandes added.

Fernandes and Ronaldo play together for the Portugal national side, winning the UEFA Nations League in 2019, and Rio Ferdinand just had to reach out to his former teammate to get the lowdown on United’s new signing.

Ferdinand revealed that he’s asked both Nani and Ronaldo about Fernandes - and he was pleased with their answers.

“I’ve spoken to a few of his teammates at national level and club level,’ Ferdinand told FIVE.

"Nani, my old teammate, says he’s a fantastic player, says he’s perfect for England. Says he’s got all the tools, all the right attributes.

“Cristiano said he’s fantastic, creates chances for him [for Portugal]. He can manipulate the ball, take the ball, confident.

"These are the type of things that you want to hear when Manchester United are signing a player.

"So fans, based on what I’ve heard about him and what I've seen, I’m hopeful and confident that this guy can go out there and do the job."

Fernandes’ stats speak for themselves.

In 137 games for Sporting he scored 64 goals and provided 46 assists, per Squawka.

And he has Ronaldo's seal of approval.
