WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart has announced on social media that he has skin cancer and has issued a warning as well about protecting your skin.

Bret Hart announced on his Instagram account on Thursday that he has basal cell carcinoma, which is the most common form of skin cancer.

Alongside a picture following his recent doctor's visit, The Hitman also sent out a warning to people about the importance of protecting your skin from the sun.

Hart also noted that he is scheduled to have the skin cancer removed soon.

He said: "Goal for 2020 and beyond: wear more sunscreen! Basal cell carcinoma removal scheduled soon. Another opportunity to remind everyone to look after your health and #getchecked."

Many WWE fans have sent their 'get well soon' wishes to the two-time Hall of Famer in the comments section of his post.

According to Skincancer.org, basal cell carcinoma grows slowly, so with early detection and treatment, most cases are curable. There aren't many cases where basal cell carcinoma spreads and becomes life-threatening, so long as it's treated.

The Hitman has dealt with a number of health issues since retiring from the ring.

In 2002, he suffered a stroke after a bicycle accident where he was suffered total paralysis on his left side. Fortunately, he was able to recover after months of physical therapy.

In 2016, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer but was able to beat the disease following a successful surgery.

Hart hasn't been seen in WWE since SummerSlam last year. He was also inducted into the Hall of Fame for the second time in his career as part of The Hart Foundation alongside Jim Neidhart during WrestleMania 35 weekend last April.

During his induction speech with Neidhart's daughter and current superstar Natalya, Hart was tackled to the ground by an audience member, but they were quickly saved by multiple wrestlers and security.

Heroicly, and after a couple of minutes, The Hitman was able to continue his speech to honour his brother-in-law and their achievements in WWE.

It's currently unclear as to when Hart will make another appearance for WWE, but it wouldn't be surprising if we see him soon since WrestleMania 36 is just around the corner.
