Athletico Madrid star Diego Forlan is set to snub Tottenham Hotsphur and make a surprise move to Russian League side Terek Grosny.
Spurs were heavily linked with a deadline day move for the Uruguayan forward and were expected to launch a second bid for the 31-year-old this summer.
But the Russian side, based in war-torn Chechnya, are in advanced talks to snap up the striker.
A spokesman for the Minister of Sport and Tourism in Cehcnya said: "There are conversations. Maybe the issue will be decided by tomorrow."
The attention surrounding the former Manchester United has swelled in the last two months after Forlan struck both goals in Madrid's Europa League final victory over Fulham and then went on to win the Golden Ball as the best player at the World Cup.
The move is a blow to Harry Redknapp's summer transfer plans, with the impending departure of Roman Pavlyuchenko and the uncertainty over the future of Robbie Keane the North Londoners are in dire need of more striking options.
