The rise of YouTube boxing has been a major theme of the past two years, with huge mainstream bouts between the likes of KSI and Logan Paul bringing new eyes to the sport. However, the most recent matchup between AnEsonGib and Jake Paul has fellow fighters and fans alike branding it “the worst fight ever”.Gib and Paul, who put together have over 21 million subscribers, exchanged blows in the heat of Miami Florida last night, with the latter walking away with the dominant first-round victory. It was the American’s powerful shot at the Brit’s temple that put Paul well on his way to earn his second consecutive boxing win, after beating Deji in 2018.The chaos ensued after the match finished, with KSI facing off against Paul in a fiery confrontation, which led to the Brit accepting Paul’s challenge.

Paul is hoping to avenge his brother Logan, who lost by decision to KSI in their huge Las Vegas bout in late November of last year.

However, the big talking point coming out of the match was its severe lack of quality, with fans voicing their displeasure and disappointment on social media.

With even Logan Paul publicly slamming the contest, tweeting “alright cut the shit. whose idea was that.”

The main criticism being the performance of Gib, with the British YouTuber offering little movement against his opponent and a questionable stance that made it easier for Paul to strike.

And strike he did, with the American dropping Gib and the referee calling for the bell on two-minutes and 18 seconds.

It is not just the fans that have voiced their anger at YouTube boxing, but also that of professional boxers such as Abner Mares who tweeted “I’ll pay to never see a YouTuber box ever again.”

With boxing legend and former champion Steve Forbes shaming the less-than-popular bout, stating that “these YouTubers are not real fighters stop acting like it. Please call it a fun sideshow to real boxing.”

Despite the substantial uproar, it looks like YouTube boxing will continue to live on with the continuation of the Jake Paul and KSI feud and subsequent matchup in the foreseeable future.
