UFC News: Kamaru Usman v Jorge Masvidal set for huge fight in Las Vegas in July

Jorge Masvidal is in-line to face Kamaru Usman in July

UFC fans have been waiting to see what is in store for the welterweight division ever since Conor McGregor dismantled Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone a few weeks ago.

And now it looks like we have a super-fight set for the middle of the year.

After ending Tyron Woodley's near three-year reign as the 170-pound champion, Kamaru Usman may be one of the most feared men right now in UFC.

The systematic destruction of Woodley extended his winning streak to 10 fights, and then in December he not only secured a win over Colby Covington, but he also fractured the jaw of Chaos.

Seemingly with the addition of McGregor to the division, Usman has quite a few challengers to contend with, but it looks like a midweek altercation with one of the top contenders has led to a fight being made.

At a press event earlier this week in Miami prior to the Super Bowl, Usman and Jorge Masvidal had a verbal sparring session as 'Gambred' approached with his own cameraman whilst Usman was in an interview.

And it just so happens that the two are now set for a huge Summer showdown in Las Vegas.

“Were going to bring him to Vegas,” UFC President Dana White told The Jim Rome Show regarding Masvidal, per Bloody Elbow.

“So him and Usman will fight in Vegas, probably International Fight Week.

"And then if he [Masvidal] wins, maybe we’ll do his first title defence down here in Miami.”

Dana White has confirmed that the fight is going to be in July

It really does make you wonder if the confrontation earlier in the week was a ploy from UFC to set up the fight and also create a bit of buzz...

Regardless of the conspiracy theories, Usman v Masvidal for the title is probably THE fight to make in the division right now.

Arguably there's more money to be had with Masvidal v McGregor, but the former deserves the chance to fight for the title as he's taken the scalps of Darren Till, Ben Askren and Nate Diaz in his last three fights.

Masvidal will be looking to put the welterweight title over one shoulder and the BMF belt over the other, and if he is able to defeat Usman, a face-off with McGregor may end up becoming Dana's priority.
