Odion Ighalo is officially a Manchester United player. Who would have thought it?After the middle-term injury sustained by Marcus Rashford in January, the Red Devils changed tactics in the transfer window and opened up a wide-ranging search for a new striker. In similar fashion to Chelsea in 2018, their hunt featured some very surprising names with Danny Ings, Salomon Rondon, Joshua King and Islam Slimani all linked with an Old Trafford switch. The need for goals is understandable when you consider Jesse Lingard has scored just twice all season, Daniel James hasn't found the net since August and Mason Greenwood is still only 18.However, few United fans could have expected that Ighalo would have been their choice, even if the loan agreement with Shanghai Greenland Shenhua means it will only be temporary.

Remembering Ighalo's Watford days

So, yes, it was never going to be a world-beating striker that would play at Old Trafford for seasons to come, but somebody best remembered for their days at Watford isn't exactly exciting.

Or is that really the case? Well, Ighalo's first full season in the Premier League was truly one to remember, scoring 15 goals - as well as two more in the FA Cup - across 37 appearances.

Nevertheless, just two strikes the following season saw the hype around Ighalo fall flat and eventually encouraged his move to China, where little has been heard about him since.

Ighalo's 'scoop' skill move

But what can United really draw from his time in England? One thing they can certainly get excited about is his trademark 'scoop' skill move, which became a common fixture in Watford games.

You know you have a skilful player when they have their own associated trick and United fans have been reminded themselves of Ighalo's go-to manoeuvre on social media since the news.

That being said, we appreciate not everybody can remember Ighalo putting defenders in a tangle during his time at Vicarage Road, so kindly check out a 'scoop' compilation for the full effect:

One United fan wrote: "Spending the rest of my day studying Ighalo scoop turns brb."

Another penned: "Can't wait for him to scoop Premier League defenders. We move!"

While a rival supported opted for: "So jealous of the United fans that are going to be enjoying the Ighalo scoop."

GIVEMESPORT's Kobe Tong says

Some of the best trademark moves are the simplest ones.

The Ighalo 'scoop' won't exactly have Ronaldinho weak at the knees, but it's the sort of deceptive foot movement than can catch out some of the best defenders in the business every single time.

Look, I'm as unconvinced as everybody is about the Ighalo signing, but underrate his ability as a footballer at your peril and he should probably have never left the Premier League anyway.

I anticipate he'll notch up five goals for United this season, even if I think they should have used this as an opportunity to really get behind Greenwood and let him lead the line until May.

At the end of the day, it's a signing that stinks of panic from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as he desperately scrambles for the Champions League places. Now that's a 'scoop'.
