Tottenham vs Manchester City was just mental.Spurs ran out 2-0 winners but that doesn’t even begin to tell the story.The first flashpoint came in the 12th-minute when Raheem Sterling should have been shown a red card for his studs-up tackle on Dele Alli.It left Jose Mourinho fuming.But just before half-time, the match descended into chaos.

Sergio Aguero was fouled by Serge Aurier in the box. Play continued for two minutes before Mike Dean was told by VAR that he should award the penalty despite the ball not going out of play.

Ilkay Gundogan missed the spot-kick after Hugo Lloris parried.

Raheem Sterling was first on the rebound and went down under Lloris’ challenge. However, Dean and VAR didn’t give a penalty with what appeared to be a dive.

Should that be a second yellow for Sterling?

In the carnage, Mourinho had forgotten that the City winger had been booked. He sat back in his seat and took a drink of water as he celebrated Lloris' penalty save.

That was until his assistant manager, Joao Sacramento, reminded him that Sterling had already been booked and should be shown a second yellow.

It sent the Spurs manager into a frenzy.

He suddenly jumped up, ran to the fourth official in a desperate attempt to get Sterling sent off.

Brilliant.

While he was infuriated then, he was celebrating in the second half.

Debutant Steven Bergwijn scored a stunning volley to open the scoring before Son Heung-min doubled Spurs’ lead against ten-man City.
