Conor McGregor has admitted his trash-talking during the build-up for his fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov may have gone too far.

McGregor might be the most prolific trash talkers in sports history, but it now looks like even he knows when he’s gone too far in the art ahead of a fight.

Notorious’ verbal spats with Nurmagomedov in the build-up to their fight at UFC 229 in October 2018 caught the attention of the fans and the media for how far and personal they went.

However, Khabib would be the one who had the last laugh, as he was able to defeat McGregor in their fight by rear-naked choke in the fourth round.

Ahead of a possible rematch between the two, as Dana White has said McGregor will face the winner of Khabib vs Tony Ferguson, the Irishman has admitted his trash-talking with the Russian may have gone too far.

However, he doesn’t regret what he did, and he also points the finger back at his rival for helping ignite the fuse for such explosive and personal trash talk.

Notorious said during a recent interview with ESPN via MMA Fighting: “Some of the things maybe [went] too far but it is what it is. It’s the fight business. At the end of the day, it went the way it went. That’s it.

“It wasn’t just said. There were actions that led to what was said. It didn’t just get to words. There was actions that led to those words. Like things throughout the course of the build-up like with the Artem [Lobov] situation.

“Things that maybe slipped under the radar like it was me that began all this. Whatever, it did get very, very personal.”

Prior to his return fight vs Donald Cerrone at UFC 246, McGregor appeared to be more subdued and his trash talk was nearly non-existent compared to his previous fight build-ups.

Notorious stated he’s taking a step away from trash-talking, but he still found a way to take a jab at the UFC Lightweight Champion.

He said: “I’m taking a backstep from that and I’m focusing on the skills. It’s a very skillful bout. He poses a specific style set and I pose a specific style set and it’s an interesting clash with two fully focused fighters and that’s what will happen in the next bout. I look forward to it, to settling it.

“I look forward to that competition fully focused. You can see the shape of me. Everyone knows. No matter what, that man can run but he cannot hide from it. Fear. He doesn’t want it. It is what it is.”
