The January transfer window is often a minefield for managers.

Player values skyrocket and landing a top target can be nigh-on impossible at times.

However, there is scope for good deals to be done and the 2020 January window was no different.

Copious amounts of cash exchanged hands as hundreds of deals were completed across the globe.

We here at GIVEMESPORT have decided to rank the 15 best signings made by teams in Europe's top five leagues last month.

There's no prizes for guessing who sits comfortably at number one...

15. Reiner Jesus (Flamengo to Real Madrid)

Los Blancos seem obsessed with signing young Brazilians right now, with the talented Reiner joining Vinicius and Rodrygo in sunny Spain. He looks a real talent as well.

14. Krzysztof Piatek (AC Milan to Hertha Berlin)

His last six months at Milan were awful, but the Pole is a talented striker with a wand of a right foot. Germany's capital is the perfect setting for his renaissance.

13. Dejan Kulusevski (Udinese to Juventus)

Five goals and seven assists in 21 Serie A games for Udinese proves this 19-year-old kid is a serious talent. Well played, Juventus.

12. Exequiel Palacios (River Plate to Bayer Leverkusen)

The 21-year-old is viewed as one of Argentina's brightest prospects and his price tag of £15m will surely look like pennies in years to come.

11. Steven Bergwijn (PSV to Spurs)

Not exactly cheap (around £27m to be exact) but certainly a signing that brings excitement. Spurs fans will be praying the 22-year-old isn't Memphis Depay 2.0, though.

10. Emre Can (Juventus to Borussia Dortmund)

After selling Julian Weigl to Benfica, this signing was a no-brainer. We all know how good Can can be and the promise of him alongside Axel Witsel is a scary proposition for the rest of the Bundesliga.

9. Christian Eriksen (Spurs to Inter Milan)

Forgetting those last 12 months or so at Spurs, Eriksen is undoubtedly one of the world's top playmakers. Inter will now have the Dane supplying Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez, mouthwatering stuff.

8. Sander Berge (Genk to Sheffield United)

When Sheffield United sign a highly-rated midfielder who flirted with Liverpool in the past, you know they're going places. The 21-year-old may just take the Premier League by storm.

7. Diego Demme (RB Leipzig to Napoli)

Napoli were crying out for a defensive-minded midfielder and they have made a very shrewd £12m investment here.

6. Bruno Guimaraes (Athletico Paranaense to Lyon)

A Brazilian baller touted to be a mainstay in the national team's midfield in the coming years. He cost Lyon just £16.9m, an absolute steal in today's market.

5. Takumi Minamino (RB Salzburg to Liverpool)

Liverpool just do things the right way. The fact the Japanese cost just £7.25m means this signing will probably feature in every 'Premier League's best bargain buys' list in the future.

4. Bruno Fernandes (Sporting Lisbon to Man Utd)

United needed a playmaker and they got one. They had to cough up £55m, but they've finally got a midfielder capable of scoring and creating. There is a heck of a lot of pressure on his shoulders, though.

3. Paco Alcacer (Borussia Dortmund to Villarreal)

Smart business by both clubs. Alcacer may have stagnated out in Germany, but he was born to score goals and he might just take Villarreal up a couple of notches. Money well spent.

2. Dani Olmo (Dinamo Zagreb to RB Leipzig)

Perhaps a controversial runner-up, but Olmo has dazzled in the Champions League with Zagreb and had the biggest clubs in Europe sniffing around him.

Leipzig have got a future world beater on their hands, who will surely make them a handsome profit when he jumps ship in a few years.

1. Erling Haaland (RB Salzburg to Borussia Dortmund)

Who else was it going to be, eh? Snapping up a 19-year-old generational talent for £18m was a masterstroke of epic proportions.

He might have a £63m release clause, but he's still going to to score a shed loads of goals out in Germany - Haaland already has seven in just three appearances!

So you see, you can get value for money in January.

Haaland will likely go on to be one of the finest mid-season signings of all-time, while the likes of Olmo, Guimaraes and Palacios have all the tools to take Europe's elite leagues by storm.
