Sky Blue FC have announced the re-signing of Gina Lewandowski on a one-year deal.

The defender has agreed to a new one-year contract with the option of a one-year extension in the following season. 

Lewandowski made her debut for the Blue's in May 2019, against Portland Thorns, where she gained a full 90 minutes under her belt. The American played a total of 13 times for the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) which includes 12 starts.

Lewandowski, 36, explained that she is "really excited to be back with Sky Blue for another season.

"There have been some great things developing with this club and I am looking forward to being a part of it".

Prior to joining Sky Blue, Gina Lewandowski represented the German side FC Bayern Munich for seven years between 2012-2017. The club was very successful; gaining the league title in both 2015 and 2016.

Lewandowski undoubtfully brings a wealth of experience to the NWSL team, being an international player for the USA as well as being apart of FFC Frankfurt side in 2007/2008 where they achieved the desired treble (League title, the DFB Cup and the UEFA Women's Cup).

Head Coach Freya Coombe added to skybluefc.com that "Gina is a fantastic player ... She reads the game well and is a fierce competitor both in the air and on the ground".

Sky Blue FC finished eighth in the National Women's Soccer League in their 2019 campaign.
