The undrafted rookie from Mississippi has spent this season proving to the world what he can do with one chance at the NBA and last night was no exception when he exploded for 31pts in the 129-102 Toronto victory.

Known as the “superstar” athlete playing both football and basketball at Southaven high school, Mississippi, Davis was offered several scholarships to play football as a wide receiver at major Universities. However, he turned down the offers to pursue a place on the Ole Miss Rebels basketball team, a more difficult route to athletic stardom.

Putting in serious work, Davis became an All-SEC performer, earning numerous titles and averaging 15.2pts in his senior year, ranking him tenth in the Southeastern Conference. Despite these achievements, it was the Portsmouth Invitational, a seniors-only showcase for NBA scouts, which gained him significant coverage just in time for the 2019 NBA Draft.

Left undrafted, Davis was offered a one-year contract from the Toronto Raptors with a potential second-year season. That second-year deal is looking increasingly possible with each passing game as the 22-year-old guard has left head coach Nick Nurse and NBA fans worldwide speechless with his performance.

Davis hit a career-high 31pts last night, shooting 12-for-15 from the field and an astonishing 85.7% from three. There is no doubt he is credited with helping the Raptors to their 11th straight win - matching their franchise record.

But this is not the only jaw-dropping game Davis has laid out, he dropped 23 points in his first career start against the Charlotte Hornets and is now averaging 7.7pts per game.

On Superbowl Sunday, Davis started hot by hitting back-to-back threes and by the fourth quarter his confidence had improved as he sank pull-up threes with ease. The whole Raptors roster appears to be firmly behind this evolving success story with Fred VanVleet making the play of the night when he kicked the ball out to Davis to hit a smooth corner three.

Pascal Siakam added 17pts and nine rebounds despite his absence from the fourth quarter. Serge Ibaka hit 16pts for Toronto, Kyle Lowry had 14, VanVleet had 12pts and eight assists while Chris Boucher finished up with 15 and Patrick McCaw scored 10.

The reigning champions are painting themselves as a team full of stars and breakout stories this season and we are here for that! Fans now wait for the Pacers game on Wednesday to see if the Six can set franchise history with 12 straight wins.
