Rey Mysterio believes Cain Velasquez will be 'a great one in the ring' for WWE.

Cain Velasquez has only competed in a handful of matches for WWE so far since signing with the company in October 2019.

His most notable match for WWE to date was when he wrestled and lost to long-time rival Brock Lesnar in a WWE Championship match at Crown Jewel last year, tapping out to the Kimura Lock after 88 seconds.

Lesnar attacked Velasquez with a steel chair after the match and delivered an F-5 onto another steel chair, before Mysterio intervened and saved him.

The former UFC star hasn’t been seen in WWE since then. He did tease a Royal Rumble appearance during a recent interview, but that never happened.

Speaking recently to BT Sport, Mysterio gave praise to Velasquez and the effort he has put into his WWE career so far.

The Master of the 619 even went as far as to say he thinks Velasquez will be 'a great one in the ring' for WWE.

He said, via Wrestling Inc: "We had a couple of opportunities to train down in San Diego where my son trains as well, and he loved it. He's another guy that I think is gonna shock the world when he takes this on full time.

“I know he's been away right now for a minute, but once he sets foot back in that ring, he loves that lucha libre style, and he's very agile for his size.

"I think he's gonna be a great one in the ring. I can't wait to see that full transition. Right now, we're just kind of seeing teasers, but once he sets his mind and he wants to do something, he doesn't stop until he accomplishes it."

As of writing, it’s unclear what WWE has planned for Velasquez moving forward since fans haven’t seen him since the Crown Jewel show.

In fact, there hasn’t been any indication as to what brand he will be competing for, whether that be Raw, SmackDown, or possibly even NXT.

WWE probably does have a plan for Velasquez in the near future, but we’ll have to wait and see exactly what that plan is, and whether or not he’ll be competing next at Super Showdown, or possibly further down the road at WrestleMania 36.
