This Girl Can have launched a fund to support community sports activities that help women to overcome barriers they might face when it comes to getting active - whether that is a lack of activities locally or childcare and its associated costs.

The funding, provided by National Lottery, is designed to support women over the age of 16 and is available to organisations needing a few hundred pounds for smaller projects and larger projects looking for closer to a £10,000 grant.

On their website, they write they are looking to support: "Activities that get women’s heart rate up, whatever form that may take: from Bollywood dance and walking to boxing and yoga. Our decisions on which ideas to support will be based on the difference that can be made with the funding".

The deadline for applications is 25 February and is open to any not-for-profit organisations, voluntary or community clubs, registered charities or community interest companies supporting women in sport.

The opening of the community fund follows This Girl Can's latest much-praised campaign that shone a spotlight on some of the barriers the fund is hoping to combat - from periods to juggling motherhood with exercise.

But according to The Times, the Advertising Standards Authority has received 20 complaints about the advert that included a visible tampon string as a woman was getting ready for yoga.

The paper reports that the complaints included the fact that it was scheduled when children might view it and for being too graphic. Reportedly one person wrote that he "looks forward to the day when an ad for male genitalia cream interrupts your halloumi”.

Reportedly, Sport England is unapologetic and noted that most of these complaints were made by men.
