Manchester United are in the Premier League relegation zone based on results in 2020

Arsenal FC v Manchester United - Premier League

Manchester United’s 0-0 draw against Wolves on Saturday evening means it’s just one win from five matches in 2020.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are six points behind fourth-placed Chelsea and facing a serious battle to finish in the automatic Champions League places.

Assuming that Liverpool, Manchester City and Leicester City will occupy the top three places, there is just one spot in the top four remaining.

And can Man United be trusted to finish about Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Sheffield United and Wolves?

On current form, the answer to that is no.

The Red Devils have failed to score in four of their previous five Premier League matches.

And the solution to their goalscoring problems is Odion Ighalo, apparently.

One fact that should really concern Solskjaer is that Man United would be in the relegation zone based on results in 2020 alone.

Tranmere Rovers v Manchester United - FA Cup Fourth Round

United’s return of four points from five matches in the calendar year puts them in 18th place, ahead of only Brighton and Crystal Palace.

They kicked off the year with a 2-0 defeat to Arsenal on New Year’s Day.

Then followed a 4-0 win over Norwich on January 11 but Man United haven’t scored a single goal in the league since then.

They had successive 2-0 defeats to Liverpool and Burnley and then drew 0-0 with Wolves.

Liverpool FC v Manchester United - Premier League

So five games have yielded just one win and four points.

That’s not good.
