Athletico Madrid are ready to offer Tottenham Hotsphur South American pair Sergio Aguero and Diego Forlan in a deal worth £40 million, according to reports in Spain.

The cash strapped Spanish side are preparing to sell their star turns after months of speculation linking the duo away from the Vicente Calderon.

Forlan had been tipped to land a deal with Russian side Terek Grozny this summer, following bids from Real Madrid and Tottenham in the January transfer window.

Meanwhile, Aguero, who has long been coveted by Chelsea, signed a new contract in January which includes a clause allowing him to leave if Athletico finish lower than sixth in La Liga.

Harry Redknapp is expected to lose Roman Pavlyuchenko this summer and with the uncertainly surrounding Robbie Keane's future at White Hart Lane growing since his loan move to West Ham United, Spurs are in dire need of more attacking options.

The Blues have worries over the future of many of their strikers, with Didier Drogba, soon to turn 33, and Nicolas Anelka, being rotated to appease new signing Fernando Torres, a move that might lead to either striker becoming unsettled.
