Paris Saint-Germain's dominance in Ligue 1 has seen the division's reputation tarnished over the past few years.

Given the fact that PSG stroll to the title every single season, fans over the globe unfairly label the French top-flight as a 'Farmers League'.

In reality, Ligue 1 is full of top-class teams and the amount of talented stars scattered across France is scary.

Why do you think Premier League sides are always snapping up players from France, eh?

In 2019/20, PSG currently sit atop the Ligue 1 table with 55 points, 12 ahead of second-placed Montpellier after 22 games.

PSG's lead is surely insurmountable, but it pales in comparison to Liverpool's advantage in the Premier League.

The Reds are already on 73 points, 22 clear of Manchester City and on course to stroll to the title.

As such, PSG star Angel Di Maria has decided to speak out on the unfair criticism aimed at Ligue 1 in light of Liverpool's amazing run.

The Argentine said, per Goal: "Many feel the league is weaker than others but look at England!

"Liverpool are streets ahead, and when we build up a similar lead it’s because the league isn’t as good?!

"There are fewer star names here, but the league is really competitive.”

Di Maria might just have a point here. The Premier League's financial power is far superior, but is there really such an enormous gulf in talent?

The likes of Lyon, Lille and Marseille have proven to be difficult opposition in European competition as well in the past few years.

Lyon memorably beat Manchester City at the Etihad in 2018, while Marseille reached the Europa League final the very same year.

To a degree, there is a gap between the Premier League and Ligue 1, but showing the level of disrespect that is regularly aimed at the former is just ignorance.

PSG could silence a lot of the doubters by delivering on the Champions League stage in February.
