Loris Karius’ loan spell at Besiktas has afforded the goalkeeper the chance to move on from his Liverpool nightmare.

You know the one. May 26th, 2018, Kiev, Real Madrid. Yeah, that ugly saga.

Karius was sent to Besiktas for two years in August 2018 and he’s played regularly, making a total of 61 appearances for the Turkish side.

But his second season at the club has been much more problematic, with the German making three errors leading to goals.

The latest gaffe came in a 2-1 win over Caykur Rizespor on Saturday and Karius’ chances of securing a permanent move to Besiktas are slipping.

Indeed, Turkish outlet Fotospor are reporting that Besiktas manager Sergen Yalcin is looking for a new goalkeeper in the summer after growing impatient with Karius.

But it’s not just his form that is causing problems between Karius and his club.

The report goes on to claim that Karius is spending too many late nights out in Istanbul, which could be affecting his on-pitch displays.

Karius is hardly helping himself. Nobody has forgotten about his nightmare against Real Madrid - and getting in trouble for enjoying the Turkish nightlife too much isn’t going to help his reputation.

It remains to be seen what will happen to the 26-year-old at the end of the season.

The latest report suggests Besiktas won’t sign him to a permanent deal and the goalkeeper hasn’t given up hope of playing for Liverpool again.

“Will I play for Liverpool again? Of course it's an option and a good option to still be there,” he said last October, per the Daily Mail.

“Maybe I'll play for them again, you never know. It's still far ahead.

“If it's not Liverpool, it will be another decent team, so I'm not worried about any scenario.”

Given everything that's happened, you've got to admire his confidence.
