Liverpool's youth team have just beaten Shrewsbury at Anfield to progress to the fifth round of the FA Cup.Neil Critchley's side have done their senior counterparts proud, beating the League One side 1-0 thanks to an own goal from ex-Manchester United youngster Ro-Shaun WilliamsThe victory follows on from Liverpool's stunning victory over Merseyside rivals Everton in the fourth round, where the Reds' B team managed to beat a full-strength Toffees side.Critchley's team were mighty impressive in the first 45 minutes tonight, out-passing Shrewsbury and showing maturity way beyond their years. However, it looked like all their good work was going to be undone in the second half when Shaun Whalley bundled the ball over the line on 59 minutes.

But VAR was on hand to correctly disallow the goal for offside and Liverpool were handed a deserved second chance.

That intervention from VAR appeared to galvanise the Reds, with Curtis Jones - who was magnificent on the night - going close shortly after.

The moment of magic wasn't far away, though, with Williams' ridiculous own goal on 75 minutes certain to feature on numerous blooper reels in the years to come.

Liverpool's Neco Williams launched the ball 40 yards towards the Shrewsbury area, sparking panic and leading to Williams heading the ball over his own goalkeeper.

The German boss will no doubt be ecstatic with the performances of a number of players against Shrewsbury, most notably Jones, Williams, Harvey Elliot and Pedro Chirivella.

With the Premier League title set to be wrapped up in a month or so, Liverpool's impressive youngsters will surely be handed more first-team opportunities before the end of the season.
