Stoke City are considering a summer move for Liverpool target Stephen Warnock.

According to the Mirror, Warnock is desperate to leave Villa Park after a furious row with manager Gerard Houllier saw him demoted to the reserves.

Liverpool had been linked with a the 29-year-old during the January transfer window and - should they reignite their interest at the end of the season - they will be contested in their pursuit by Stoke.

The Guardian reported during the winter window that Villa had ordered Liverpool to pay £500,000 to take the left-back on loan, as well as covering his wages in full for the remainder of the season.

However, Liverpool were unwilling to meet the demands of Villa and opted to pull out of the proposed deal and pursue other options.

But Liverpool failed to bring in a replacement for Anfield flop Paul Konchesky - who was sent out on loan to Nottingham Forest - and are now expected to do so in the summer.

Whether or not Warnock remains on the Liverpool radar remains to be seen, but the Anfield club are known to monitoring a number of potential acquisitions.

Newcastle full-back Jose Enrique reportedly remains on Liverpool's list of targets, as does Celtic's Emilio Izaguirre and out-of-contract Marseille defender Taye Taiwo.
