Christian Eriksen's departure from Tottenham happened around six months too late.

The Dane was in the last year of his contract back in the summer and it was evident to near enough everyone that the playmaker would not be signing a new deal.

However, Spurs opted to keep ahold of the 27-year-old and it's a decision that seriously backfired for both player and club.

Eriksen simply looked disinterested during his final few months in north London, diminishing his own reputation among Spurs fans.

The last few morsels of that positive reputation will probably now be destroyed forever after his latest comments with new club Inter Milan.

Eriksen has taken a very obvious dig at Spurs' lack of trophies during his time with the club and it's surely not going to go down well.

"There's a big chance of winning a trophy here or a bigger chance than where I was of course," Eriksen told Sky in Italy.

"I'm here to win and start something new. The last time I won something was at Ajax so it's many years ago. I still remember the feeling so I want to achieve it here as well."

Eriksen just casually providing all the ammunition for rival fans there - ouch.

The Dane helped turn Spurs into a top-four Premier League club, but trophies still managed to elude him.

Eriksen was part of the Spurs sides which lost in both the 2015 League Cup final and the 2019 Champions League final, two heartbreaking defeats.

But is there more chance of silverware with Inter? Given Juventus' dominance over in Italy, perhaps not.

Although, Antonio Conte's side are already in to the semi-final of the Coppa Italia and will be one of the red-hot favourites to win the Europa League.

But imagine the look on Eriksen's face if Jose Mourinho ends Spurs' 11-year trophy drought before Inter get their hands on some silverware...
