FIFA 2003 was simply one of the greatest games ever made.

It may not have had the shiny graphics and fluid gameplay found on the newer editions of the franchise, but it was a big part of all our childhoods.

You just couldn't beat whacking in a free-kick with Roberto Carlos from 50 yards and then watching the pixelated crowd go mad.

But one thing that's likely slipped a lot of minds about FIFA 2003 was the bizarre player ratings.

EA Sports used to hand out 90 ratings as if they were going out of fashion and some of the Premier League player rankings were truly bizarre.

Thanks to Gamespot, we've provided the top players from each team in the division at the time and we've also included one or two surprises.

Lee Bowyer was the second highest-rated player in the Premier League, with Roy Keane taking top spot.

All in all, 17 players were rated 90 or higher. In FIFA 20, Kevin De Bruyne Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah were the only Premier League players to be rated higher than 90 on the date of release.

Some of those ratings are just mind-blowing.

Jamie Redknapp as Spurs' best player, Joe Cole and George Boateng rated the same as Thierry Henry and Steed Malbranque sitting handsomely on 90 - what a time to be alive it was.

Pascal Cygan rated 90 is like handing Shkodran Mustafi the same rating. Thank god Twitter wasn't around in those days, because the online meltdowns would have simply been too much.

Especially given that Dennis Bergkamp was handed a measly 79 rating...
