Totteham progressed to the fifth round of the FA Cup with a hard-fought win over Southampton on Tuesday evening.Spurs took an early lead when Tanguy Ndombele's shot deflected off the unfortunate Jack Stephens and into the net.But Southampton were able to turn the game on its head.Shane Long restored parity in the 34th minute, before Danny Ings put the visitors in front with 18 minutes remaining.Spurs fought back and managed to level proceedings six minutes later through Lucas Moura.

And Heung-min Son netted from the penalty spot minutes before the end of the game to send Tottenham through.

Dele Alli played a major role in Spurs' victory. The English midfielder has not been at his best in recent weeks and thus Jose Mourinho decided to put him on the bench.

But, with Spurs needing goals, he was sent on in the 61st minute.

He was credited with the assist for Lucas' equaliser and he was crucial as Son won a late penalty.

Alli has a reputation for nutmegs and, in the build-up to Son being felled, he decided to nutmeg the referee.

He then ran down the right and put through a delicious through ball to Son, which also went through a Southampton player's legs.

No one is safe on the football pitch when Alli is around.

Alli told BT Sport in his post-match interview that he believes Spurs deserve to win a trophy.

"It says a lot about the character we have. To go from such a big game at the weekend, easy to lose a game like this," he said, per tribal football.

"We showed great character, at times a bit sloppy, but sometimes it takes one little switch and I think it was their second goal.

"It has been a long time coming, we are one of the best teams in the world in the years we have been together, we deserve a trophy.

"But no-one is going to give it to us, we have to keep pushing and not just for us but for the fans we have to win something."
