Nigeria seemed to have the whole footballing world wearing their colours in 2018.

On the eve of that year's World Cup in Russia, Nike sparked something of a global craze by dropping a new Nigeria home shirt that was so brilliant it was flying off the shelves worldwide.

In fact, the green and white jersey, which Alex Iwobi and co later donned at the tournament, was sold out after just three minutes at Nike's London store and online.

It begs the question: how could Nike possibly have followed on from that?

Well, apparently the answer to that question from the Nike designers has been: hold my beer.

Nike and Nigeria do it again

That's because they've released their first Nigeria home kit since that 2018 classic and they've knocked it so far out of the park that it could even be better than its predecessor.

Once again, Nike have thrown all their usual templates to the side and have gone for a patterned scheme of green hues that really stands out with originality.

What makes those textures even more impressive is the fact they were all hand-drawn and are derived from traditional Nigerian abbada robes.

Love for the home AND away kits

That, and the whackier elements are smartly tied together with a really simple white and black arrangement that gives off shades of Germany in all the best ways.

There's also the lovely touch of 'Naija' taking pride of place on the inside-neck and the back of the socks.

And unlike 2018, the eulogising hasn't just focused around the home strip, because prospective customers are also rubbing their hands together at the sight of the away design.

The largely grey effort which, unlikely the home jersey, features the Nike logo to the side, particularly stands out for its gorgeous feather-like patterns across the collar and sleeves.

It's no wonder football fans are eulogising about the Nigeria range on social media and they'll be itching to lean about the hitherto unannounced release date.

Promising for Liverpool

The new releases could be cause for excitement in Liverpool, too, as the Premier League champions in waiting prepare to swap New Balance for Nike in the summer.

That's because a Liverpool fan account received a reply from Nike Chief Heidi Burgett after passing comment on how spectacular the new Nigeria strips looked.

@LFCOffside wrote: "I don't know how Nigeria keep getting kits that are a billion times better than the rest of Nike's templated bull**** but here's hoping whoever's doing it for them is in charge of Liverpool's 20-21 kit."

To that, Burgett replied: "We're ditching the templates. For the 2020 kits, Nike designers had 65 chassis options available to them across varying necklines, sleeves, cuffs, badge placement, etc.

"From hand-drawn prints to custom fonts, each team’s look will be its own."

If they're anything as original and aesthetic as the Nigeria kits, then Liverpool could be defending their title in some of the freshest attire in the beautiful game. Watch this space.
