Shane Long's expletive reaction to James Ward-Prowse's knee injury

Tottenham Hotspur v Southampton FC - FA Cup Fourth Round: Replay

Tottenham and Southampton played out an FA Cup cracker at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday.

Spurs led, Southampton led but it was Jose Mourinho’s side that triumphed 3-2 to book a fifth round clash against Norwich.

It was tough to take for the Saints who, in truth, deserved to go through.

Even Mourinho admitted the “best team lost” at full-time.

It could have been worse for Southampton, though.

In the first half, key man James Ward-Prowse picked up what appeared to be a serious knee injury when he clashed with Ryan Sessegnon.

There were suggestions that he may have dislocated his knee or sustained a damaging ligament injury.

And when teammate Shane Long came over, everyone watching at home knew just how serious it was.

The striker could be heard shouting “F**k me, you can see his f**king bone" as he ran over.

It didn’t sound good.

Ward-Prowse was eventually stretchered and was provided with oxygen to ease the pain.

However, it seems that the Euro 2020 hopeful isn’t too badly injured after all.

Ward-Prowse ‘only’ suffered a deep gash on his knee caused by Sessegnon’s studs.

Remarkably, he could even be fit for Southampton’s next fixture - a Premier League clash against Burnley on February 15.

Recently, Ward-Prowse received some high praise from his manager Ralph Hasenhuttl after his impressive form has seen Southampton completely turn their season around.

“I think [being physical] is the biggest change in his game since I’m here," Hasenhuttl said.

“He was always a good player and had a fantastic right foot but never nobody saw him defending or winning balls like he does at the moment.

“This is maybe something he had to learn and he had to show me, he did it."
