Paul Scholes vs Jordan Henderson seems to be the latest debate in the Premier League right now.

If you think that sounds pretty strange, then you aren't alone, but the whole discussion emerged when a Liverpool fan called Craig declared that Henderson was far better than Scholes.

On 888Sport's 'Unpopular Opinion' segment, he explained: "My unpopular opinion is that Paul Scholes is completely over-hyped and Jordan Henderson is a better player.

"Jordan Henderson has been a career of progression. The man dominates in midfield, can play in any position and every manager he has worked under trusts him implicitly.

"Scholes is nowhere near fit to lace even Jordan Henderson's boots. He's nothing but a ginger Mark Noble and that is my unpopular opinion."

Henderson vs Scholes debate?

Funnily enough, that prompted plenty of rebuttals in the comments section, including the fact Scholes has won more Premier League titles than Henderson has Man of the Match awards.

And while the vast majority of football fans will agree that Scholes is the superior player, the debate between the two English midfielders might actually be closer than you think.

Well, that's certainly the case when you look at their all-time Premier League assists.

Scholes and Henderson's league assists

Despite being famed for his world-class passing, Scholes has a pretty underwhelming assists record and his total of 55 has drawn some unwanted comparisons in recent years.

So, how does Henderson compare? Well, the Liverpool captain has 45 assists to his name and therefore needs just 11 more in his next 165 Premier League games to move ahead.

Considering Henderson has been averaging an assist every 7.4 games in England's top flight, it should be pretty straight forward for him to at least average one in 16.5 matches from now on.

He probably won't be alone in over-taking Scholes, though, because Trent Alexander-Arnold only needs 32 assists from his next 419 appearances to similarly level the statistics.

And if you still aren't convinced about Henderson, feel free to wind up United fans even more by pointing out the fact he already has more assists than former Red Devils skipper Roy Keane.

GIVEMESPORT's Kobe Tong says

Even if Henderson surpasses Scholes' assist tally, I'm pretty sure I won't be alone in thinking the United legend was the better player.

The modern game seems to live and die on the basis of statistics and Scholes' surprisingly low total of 55 shouldn't take away from all the due praise he's received from his peers.

Besides, you're doing something right when Zinedine Zidane is saying: "My toughest opponent? Scholes of Manchester. He is the complete midfielder. Scholes is undoubtedly the greatest midfielder of his generation."

So, yes, comparing Henderson to Scholes shouldn't be laughed away as nonsense, but the answer remains clear for the fact one has 11 more Premier League trophies than the other...
