Jurgen Klopp has broken Pep Guardiola’s record for the most Premier League Manager of the Month awards in a single season. The Liverpool boss sealed the monthly gong for the fifth time this campaign on Friday following a run of flawless results.Klopp has won the individual accolade in all but one month this season. Chelsea boss Frank Lampard sealed the award for October 2019.It wouldn’t be a shock if Klopp goes on to win February, March and April’s awards, too.His Liverpool side have dropped two league points all season and are on course to wrap up the Premier League title as early as next month.

But who are the other coaches with the most Premier League Manager of the Month awards?

There are no prizes for guessing who’s in top spot, but there are a few surprises along the way.

Did you know, for example, that the likes of Kevin Keegan, Gordon Strachan and Joe Kinnear have won the award more times than Jose Mourinho? Madness.

Here are the 42 coaches with the most Manager of the Month awards…

Two Manager of the Month awards

=29. Frank Clark
=29. Steve Coppell
=29. Owen Coyle
=29. Kenny Dalglish
=29. Roy Evans
=29. John Gregory
=29. Glenn Hoddle
=29. Paul Jewell
=29. Roberto Mancini
=29. Tony Pulis
=29. Peter Reid
=29. Graeme Souness
=29. Phil Thompson
=29. André Villas-Boas

There are plenty of ‘Proper Football Men’ who have won the award twice, including Graeme Souness, Peter Reid and Tony Pulis.

It’s nice to see former Chelsea and Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas in this category, while Kenny Dalglish and Roberto Mancini are obviously both Premier League-winning coaches.

Three Manager of the Month awards

=19. Antonio Conte
=19. Alan Curbishley
=19. Gérard Houllier
=19. Eddie Howe
=19. Ronald Koeman
=19. José Mourinho
=19. David O'Leary
=19. Alan Pardew
=19. Stuart Pearce
=19. Brendan Rodgers

It’s a real surprise that Mourinho has only won the award on three occasions, considering he’s won the Premier League the same number of times.

Like Mourinho, Antonio Conte also became a Premier League champion with Chelsea.

Alan Curbishley, the man eternally linked with every job in football despite the fact he’s been out of work since 2008, is another coach with a hat-trick of Manager of the Month awards at home.

Four Manager of the Month awards

=13. Carlo Ancelotti
=13. Roy Hodgson
=13. Joe Kinnear
=13. Manuel Pellegrini
=13. Mauricio Pochettino
=13. Gordon Strachan

Carlo Ancelotti and Manuel Pellegrini have both won Premier League titles, so it’s no surprise to see them with four Manager of the Month awards to their names.

Mauricio Pochettino won three of his awards with Tottenham and the other with Southampton - will he be adding more to his collection with a certain club in Manchester next season?

Five Manager of the Month awards

=11. Kevin Keegan
=11. Claudio Ranieri

Claudio Ranieri won the award twice with Chelsea and three times during Leicester City’s unforgettable title-winning campaign. Surely the Italian deserved a few more that season?

Kevin Keegan, meanwhile, won all of his with Newcastle United in the mid-1990s.

Six Manager of the Month awards

=9. Sam Allardyce
=9. Bobby Robson

Only eight coaches have won more Manager of the Month awards than Sam Allardyce and the late Sir Bobby Robson.

Seven Manager of the Month awards

=7. Pep Guardiola
=7. Rafael Benitez

Despite never winning a Premier League title, Rafael Benitez still managed to win seven Manager of the Month awards.

You suspect that Guardiola will add a few more to his tally before leaving English football.

Eight Manager of the Month awards

=4. Jurgen Klopp
=4. Martin O’Neill
=4. Harry Redknapp

Klopp now sits alongside Martin O’Neill and Harry Redknapp on eight Premier League Manager of the Month awards apiece.

10 Manager of the Month awards

3. David Moyes

Yes, kids: David Moyes was - and perhaps still is - a decent manager. The Scot did a fantastic job at Everton and thoroughly deserved his 10 Manager of the Month awards.

15 Manager of the Month awards

2. Arsene Wenger

In second place, it’s Arsenal legend Arsene Wenger, who won the award 15 times during his illustrious spell with the Gunners.

While most of the Frenchman’s Manager of the Month awards came during Arsenal’s golden period in the late-1990s and early-2000s, he also wrapped up the individual accolade in February 2011, February 2012, September 2013, March 2015 and October 2015.

27 Manager of the Month awards

1. Alex Ferguson

But top of the list, with a staggering 27 Manager of the Month awards in his personal collection, it’s Sir Alex Ferguson.

The Manchester United legend won the inaugural award in August 1993 and sealed it for the 27th and final time in October 2012.

What a legend.

It’s hard to imagine Fergie’s tally will ever be equalled.
