It's been confirmed that a second series of the popular 'Sunderland 'Til I Die' documentary will be released on Netflix in the coming weeks.

The first season, which was released in 2018, followed Sunderland during the season they were relegated from the Championship to League 1 and it was highly successful.

Producer Leo Pearlman revealed on BBC Radio 4 that a second instalment of the docuseries is just 'four to six weeks away'.

Thanks to the Sunderland Echo, we also know a few details about the upcoming release.

It will concentrate on the club's 2018/19 league campaign and Stewart Donald’s effort to rebuild the Black Cats after his takeover.

While season one had eight episodes, there will only be six in the second series.

Specifically, episode four will focus solely on Sunderland's trips to Wembley, having played in the Checkatrade Trophy final and the play-off final.

In the cup, there was heartbreak when they were beaten by Portsmouth on penalties, while the play-off final will also be hard to re-watch.

Sunderland lost that game too, going down 2-1 to Charlton Athletic.

There will be plenty of exciting content on offer, by the sounds of things. After all, their season under manager Jack Ross was an eventful one.

Pearlman also spoke about Sunderland's former boss while promoting the new series.

"Jack Ross is a very disciplined, organised man," he said of the manager, who was sacked in October 2019.

"He's very meticulous and I think that anything that could possibly hinder that, concerns him. Ultimately, all Jack wants is success on the pitch and I respect that."

The producer also hinted that the show could return again after season 2, by saying: "If something big happens in the future, I'm sure we'll be able to capture it on camera."

Netflix has a range of sports documentaries at the click of a button, but there's something special about 'Sunderland 'Til I Die' and we'll definitely be tuning in when it drops.
