Juventus may have conceded vital ground in the Serie A title race after losing 2-1 to Hellas Verona.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored in his 10th consecutive match to become the Old Lady's first player in history to do so, but that was where the evening turned on its head.

Fabio Borini equalled with a quarter of an hour left before Giampaolo Pazzini confirmed the upset from the spot in the 86th minute.

Maurizio Sarri admitted his side appeared complacent as their lead at the top of the table stayed at just three points with Inter Milan closing in.

It was a pity for the Bianconeri too, with Ronaldo having done so well to set them on their way to victory.

The 35-year-old went on a dazzling run though Verona's half and shrugged off a defender as he eclipsed David Trezeguet's previous streak for the club.

Whatever the result, the Portuguese has rightly been receiving plaudits for his achievement.

However, one of his teammates also deserved recognition for his role in the goal and the name might come as a surprise: Matthijs De Ligt.

The Dutchman's struggles in Turin have been well-documented, but he offered one of the most promising signs yet that he is beginning to rediscover his confidence again.

In the build-up to Ronaldo's strike, the 20-year-old was instrumental in winning the ball back in audacious fashion as he made a clearance with the back of his heel while inside his own box.

Take a look at the full clip below:

The young defender has nerves of steel.

No wonder Mino Raiola has just compared him to a work of art.

The truth is, the whole of Europe knows what De Ligt is capable of and it's now just a question of rediscovering that form on a regular basis in Serie A.
